Web Administrator Position Overview

The job of Web Administrator is to monitor and enhance the performance of the website and coordinate the published content. Upgrading servers and ensuring sites are functional and serve the needs of end users.

Your candidates will come from Computer Science background and would hold experience in XML, HTML/CSS or JavaScript. Having certificates in web technologies would be an advantage. To assess the troubleshooting skills of the candidates, you must add an assignment to your hiring process.

Those who proactively identify and address technical issues will be your ideal candidates. They will take the initiative, act as good team players and will have exceptional problem-solving abilities. Keep an eye on the candidates who are curious to assist co-workers and can quickly respond to the queries.

  • Mention the firewalls you would set up to ensure security.
  • What tactics would you use to check and fix broken links?

  • Can you tell me the guidelines you would give to our employees to minimize security threats?

  • What does a web proxy server do?
  • Explain the software Bonjour. Is it safe and sound for a corporate web environment?
  • Can you tell two or three common reasons for low loading speeds of a corporate website? Also, tell me how would you troubleshoot these issues?
  • What kinds of tools do you use to research keywords?
  • How do you measure conversion rates for a web page?

  •   By what means you learn about latest web technologies and tools?
  •   Walk me through the most significant job-related challenge you have ever faced. Can you describe the situation and how did you manage to overcome problems?
  •   Do you attend conferences or read any specific blogs?
  •   Can you tell me about any website that you recently visited and was poorly designed? What did you think was wrong with it?
  •   Was there any time when you suggested a solution that helped a company improve its website? If yes, then what was your suggestion? How did you execute it and what was the result?
